In the late 1900s, intelligent sex machines have joined our lives. As a famous example, Realdoll company which has created sex robots (sexbots) and put them on the market attracts not only researchers but public. RealDoll created sexbots which understand the fantasies of her/his owner as well as perform. Besides, these intelligent sex machines can have their own fantasies and sexual choices. They can flirt, remember what his/her owner likes and hates. So, one might say that RealDolls’ sexbots are created to answer any individual’s desires. Also, Jason Lee, the author of Sex Robots: Future of Desire, has a strong argument which supports that sexbots have been with us in our dreams, desires since our origins. What if one day people prefer sexbots rather than humans? Will it be the end of humankind?

According to some scholars, sexbots may be beneficial in society. Firstly, they may help to decrease the number of sexual crimes. From criminal law perspective, sexual offenses by and against superintelligent sexbots may be discussed soon. Another benefit is that people may try their sexual fantasies on sexbots without concerning about being judged. People may try homosexuality, bisexuality or having multiple partners at the same time. Gay people may use opposite-sex sexbots to try heterosexuality. This may help people to investigate their own sexuality and anybody can experiment their preferences with sexbots safely. Moreover, some academics think that use of sexbots may eliminate paedophilia in society. In addition to the benefits of sexbots, there may be decrease in sexually-transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancies, abortions and prostitution. Since prostitution and sex trafficking have been important issues in many countries, governments may use sexbots to reduce the numbers.

On the other hand, sexbots may cause serious damages in society. For instance, people may become addicted to all kinds of pleasures from sexbots which results as a sexbot addiction. This addiction may be followed by a decrease in the human population. Since sexbots do not say ‘no’ or get headaches, there will be no obstacles between them and having pleasure anytime with their willing-to-please sexbots. Thus, the writer Joe Snell speculates that there might be a new category of sexuality: Techno-virgins. Basically, this group might comprise of the people who prefer sex exclusively with sexbots because it is simpler and easier. One might think that these forms of technologies might result as alienation and loneliness. Addition to that, Jason Lee’s main concern is that if we treat sexbots like objects, then we objectify each other more. This might harm relationships. So that the lines should be drawn carefully for the welfare of society.

As a result, sexbots are threatening our the most basic instinct, reproduction as well as offering many benefits. One way or another, these intelligent sex machines are in the market and ready to serve their owners.
